It’s a bit odd for me, usually on the wrong side of the sea for FC, leaving Manchester and saying to my mates “See you in about two weeks”. But it really is “about two weeks” till the next match this time! We’re off to the Karli!

Flag!
I really enjoy the process of making your own flag. The hours spent knelt over a bit of material, painting away, old brushes and bits of masking tape littering the floor. And then the moment comes when it’s ready, and is taken into a football ground for the first time. Then all the effort was worth it.
As a result I was delighted to get sent these pictures from the back of a terrace in South Manchester. Fellow FC fans who feel the same way. Last night the flag got its debut. Winning a place in the playoff final means it wasn’t a bad one!

Done! The new Cantona flag. Showing the correct way to deal with racists. And that all despite me only knowing a few words in French. ”Ou est la Gare” or “Tu roules avec OCB” wouldn’t have fitted you see…

HATS!
Well in advance of the summer tour, the required sun protection has arrived. The new Rotterdam 91-esque bucket hats are finished. 22 ordered, the remainder of which will no doubt be on sale via the RRF once they’ve all grabbed one themselves. Anyone can get their own fan stuff made up these days. Google it, and you’ll find plenty of producers of scarves, hats etc. So grab a bucket hat whilst you can and then get thinking about what other merch, we as fans could produce at FC.
The photos also offered me the chance to show off my new toy. A late 60s/early 70s version of the German football game “Tipp-Kick”. Metal figures, in United colours. Lovely.

FCUM - NO BUSINESS!
The DIY bug is spreading. Finally a few more homemade flags to counteract the bland red/white/black tricolors with random Stone Roses lyric.
This one will be a big wavey flag I think and was made by fellow FCUM fans who are also behind this project.
In my opinion, it looks smart as fuck!
FCUM A.D. Established 2009. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, FC United of Manchester was established in 2005, not 2009. Well here Im talking about FCUM A.D., that is a blog (the very blog you are currently clicking about on) and some (but not all) of the activities documented within.
Whats it all about? Getting off your arse and doing something. Not watching the match in the pub, not even just turning up once in a while to the ground, but dedicating time to pushing things on a notch. Whether its knocking out fanzines, running radio shows, producing banners and choreos for matches or running around town late at night making the walls and lampposts look prettier with football club related stickers, paste ups, graffitis or tags.
The A.D. is short for Art Department, thats vague enough to incorporate plenty. This blog started out concentrating just on the stickers and streetart bit, but it likes to cover other things too. As the Germans would say "blick über den Tellerrand". Is it all Grade A? Probably not, but as Minor Threat sang "You tell me that I make no difference. At least I'm fuckin' trying. What the fuck have you done?" :-D
